How To Get Rid Of The Yellow Spots On Your Lawn

Having a perfect lawn is what many people desire - and we at ParkerBrand can understand that urge. It fuelled the drive to develop quality lawnmowers at a competitive price point. That said visions of expanses of golf course green can fade quickly the moment that you introduce pets on to the scene.

The green dream: like a tartan rug that makes you feel so smug - these guys might have pets though and have been following some key points that we'll go through below. Disclaimer: This is a real lawn!

Why Do Yellow Spots Form On The Lawn?

POSSIBILITY ONE: The likely cause is your dog of and we're sure that it hasn't passed you by. Your chum, the canine apple of your eye, is wrecking your dreams of Wimbledon perfection or at the least a nice green lawn slowly but surely with a wee pee! The yellow spots are the direct result of the high levels of nitrogen present in urine as well as some salts.

Typically, you will see the yellow patch is surrounded by darker greener grass. This is the result of nitrogen working as a fertiliser on the grass - as it emanates out it is less concentrated and is therefore benefiting your lawn. It is the concentrated nitrogen that is turning your grass yellow.

What's the fix?

There are certainly a few possibilities depending on just how attentive you can be to the situation. Dilution is the solution. If you're letting Lassie out for the obvious reason then try to have a garden watering can on hand, or the garden hose ready for a quick blast. When you're sure of the spot water it well and you'll prevent the nitrogen from damaging the roots and your lawn will feel the benefit of the feed.

Dilution is the solution here and try to be quick off the mark. You know lassies favourite spots! You could always train your dog to go in the same spot away from your lawn, but good luck with that.

Re-Seed the Yellow Patches

If your lawn has really suffered from a prolonged issue in this way then doing some re-seeding will be required and will certainly get your lawn looking great all over again. It doesn't need to be a complex affair with abroad array of tools. Below you can see a great short film from Lawn Care Guy, who is always on point.
