Fuel up: The Art of Mixing Two Stroke and the Importance of Getting it Right

We've used a wealth of experience and hard-won knowledge to ensure that our machines are well designed. We'll vouch for the design with an extended warranty of two years. We like to ensure that our customers have all the resources that they need to get the best from their machine -that includes a ParkerBrand manual that covers all aspects of the machine from assembly, fueling and maintenance.

For sure, the correct fueling of your machine is essential. Like a good cocktail it's all in teh fine balance of the mix - and believe us, if you get this mix wrong you're going to have a hangover level headache.

Easy Ratio

But as usual, ParkerBrand make it as easy as can be. We make it abundantly clear the ratio of two stroke oil to fresh petrol required in both the manual and on the machine itself. Our ParkerBrand 52cc engine is so robust and easy to use that we use it on six of our products. No matter which machine; if it's a 52cc engine it's a 40:1 ratio. Forty parts petrol to every one part oil. We ensure that all of our machines display the ratio on the recoil (for longevity) and on bright tags on your machine when it arrives, shiny and new.

We ensure that you have a fuel mix bottle in with your kit that we provide for free. On the fuel mix bottle you will see the ratio given as 25:1 or 40:1. These are the two different ratios that we use, depending on the machine. If you'd like to mix more than the capacity of the free mix bottle, as some very busy customers prefer, you can use this chart as a handy reference. Like much in life, accuracy is everything. Don't over egg the pudding, as they say.

What Happens If I get it Wrong?

Try not to! Getting to know your machine before starting to use it is essential, whether it's a PGBC-5200 Brushcutter (40:1) or indeed our powerful PCS-6200 chainsaw (25:1), spend some time with the manual. If you put in a little too much two stroke, you're going to have to deal with some excess exhaust fumes from the exhaust as the oily fuel burns off. You may also likely find spatters of unburnt oil in the exhaust and/or air filter.

If you realise that your mix isn't right, the best thing is to stop your machine and drain the fuel. Mix some fuel that is at the correct ratio, clean any air filters and make good.

If it is an incorrect mixture over a prolonged time then it's not good news. You will likely score your piston (a central and integral part of the engine) and you may not know this until your engine has seized and ceased to function. This isn't something that we can take care of under warranty, with the best will in the world.

Pre-Mixed Fuel Products

There are some commercial pre-mixed products available and you may well see them in your DIY shop or garden centre. These are often produced by other machinery and equipment manufacturers and are usually aimed at their machines. We do not recommend their use - they are usually at a ratio of 50:1 and aren't going to cut the mustard with the ParkerBrand range.

Order your oils as part of your delivery - or get stocked up at a competitive price.

We often offer our machines complete with oils so that you can be ready to get to work when it arrives - it is a case of just add petrol! It it's a two stroke machine like our brush-cutter, you will simply need some two-stroke oil. However, if you're going for one of our chainsaws, you'll need some lubricant chain oil too. ParkerBrand chain oil is of course produced at the perfect viscosity for use with our chainsaws (or with the chainsaw attachment on our winning PGMT-5200) and recommend it for use with our machines.

If you know that you've going to be very busy we now offer oil by the case. Just like a case of fine wine for your machine to enjoy, to get your garden looking wonderful, so you can relax and your garden and mix up a cocktail - at just the right proportions! After the work is done of course!
